Karen Painter Randall is the founder and chair of the Cyber Security & Data Privacy and co-chair of the Professional Liability Groups at Connell Foley LLP. Ms. Randall represents clients in complex litigation and regulatory compliance/defense involving cyber security and data privacy, social media, professional liability, employment law, business litigation and insurance law. She provides counseling, representation and advocacy services to a wide range of professionals and businesses in federal and state courts.

A member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals, Ms. Randall provides guidance to clients across a broad range of industries, including legal, healthcare, financial and retail, on data protection and regulatory compliance laws. She also develops proactive plans to reduce the risk of a cyber-attack and provides counseling on risk/security assessments. In addition, she works with businesses to implement policies and procedures, awareness training for employees, and incidence response and preparation.

Designated a Certified Civil Trial Attorney four times in recognition of her trial and professional accomplishments, Ms. Randall’s extensive litigation background and experience allow her to provide strong post-breach guidance to clients relevant to statutory notification requirements, class action litigation, regulatory enforcement actions, forensics and crisis management.

Ms. Randall is often tapped for key state and national leadership positions. She received an ABA presidential appointment to serve on the Standing Committee on Lawyer’s Professional Liability and was recently nominated to the Fellows of the American Bar Foundation. She was appointed by NJ Supreme Court Chief Justice Rabner to serve on New Jersey’s Board on Civil Trial Certification. Among other roles, she serves as Vice Chair of the Cyber Security and Data Privacy Group of USLAW Network, Inc.; Regional Chair of the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance (including as a Member of the Cyber Liability and Cyber Summit Committees); and Mentor for the National Association of Women Lawyers. Ms. Randall has been repeatedly selected for inclusion in New Jersey Super Lawyers’ Top 100 and, notably, the publication’s list of Top 50 Females. She was named to New Jersey’s Women Leaders in Law, Complex Litigation; National Finalist, CLM Litigation Management Professional of the Year; NJBIZ’s Best 50 Women in Business; and Prominent Woman Among Women.

Ms. Randall is admitted to practice law in the United States Supreme Court, U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and State of New Jersey. Ms. Randall appeared for argument before the United States Solicitor General, FTC and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in Washington, DC after four U.S. Supreme Court Justices voted to seek the United States' view on a Petition for Writ of Certiorari to the United States Supreme Court on an issue of national significance involving the Fair Debt Collection Practice Act.

Ms. Randall clerked for the Honorable Richard W. Riley, former Governor, and State of South Carolina. She also served as law clerk to the Honorable J. Emmet Cassidy, Presiding Judge, Law Division, and Bergen County, N.J.

Considered a thought leader, Ms. Randall speaks and writes frequently on matters involving data security and privacy, business litigation, professional liability, director and officer issues and social medial use and ethics ranging from risk management to defense and coverage issues.
