Michael J. P. Schewe

Associate

Michael J. P. Schewe, a member of Connell Foley’s Labor & Employment Law Group, practices all aspects of immigration law, from corporate-business immigration and compliance to consular processing and removal defense. He regularly assists corporations ranging from multi-national organizations to U.S.-based businesses with bringing talent to the United States. In this regard, Mr. Schewe regularly files for H-1B, TN, O, L, E and other nonimmigrant, employment-based visas as well as green card applications (i.e., EB-1, EB-2, PERM EB-3) on behalf of the employers and individuals he represents. In addition, he regularly counsels such individuals on issues relating to asylum, cancellation of removal, nonimmigrant visas, family-based immigrant visas, and naturalization, among other topics. Given the intricacies and regulatory requirements surrounding immigration compliance, Mr. Schewe also provides employers I-9 training sessions, performs internal audits, and represents clients in the event of government audits.  Mr. Schewe practices immigration law in all 50 states, and has clients in various countries around the globe.

An experienced litigator and trial attorney, Mr. Schewe frequently appears in the state and federal courts of New York and New Jersey, mainly in the areas of labor and employment law, but in various types of complex and commercial litigation.

Mr. Schewe served as adjunct faculty of Rutgers and Montclair State Universities through the New Jersey Child Welfare Training Partnership. In that role, he instructed employees of the Department of Child Placement and Permanency (formerly DYFS) on immigration law and four-tier substantiation from 2011-2013.

Mr. Schewe serves the New Jersey State Bar Association Young Lawyers Division on its Executive Committee as a voting representative for Essex County. He is a former Fellow to the Law Practice Division of the American Bar Association (“the Division”), and a past Chair of its standing Committee on Membership. He currently serves the Division as a member of its governing Council.  Mr. Schewe is also a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (“AILA”) and the Essex County Bar Association.

Mr. Schewe graduated from Marist College in 2006 and Seton Hall University School of Law in 2009. He holds an Honorary Degree from Peking University in Beijing, China. He is a member of the New Jersey and New York state bars and is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Courts for the District of New Jersey, Southern District of New York and Eastern District of New York.
