Owen C. McCarthy, a partner at Connell Foley, is a litigator whose diverse civil practice includes tort litigation, insurance defense, as well as commercial disputes. He has successfully litigated multiple complex seven figure disputes on behalf of New Jersey's largest insurance carrier and private corporations. Mr. McCarthy has tried more than forty-five cases to verdict throughout New Jersey and has been designated by the Board of Trial Certification of the New Jersey Supreme Court as a Certified Civil Trial Attorney. 

Mr. McCarthy served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Peter F. Boggia, J.S.C. in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Bergen Vicinage. He is also a Certified Mediator designated by the New Jersey Superior Court and routinely acts as a mediator of private, contractual insurance disputes.

Additionally, Mr. McCarthy has a long and committed history of public service. He is one of only two individuals in New Jersey to have been elected to public office in two separate counties. He has also served as Commissioner and Treasurer for the state's largest public housing authority.

• Successfully represented individual and corporate defendants in negligence and wrongful death actions
• Successfully represented insurers, from trial through appeal, in coverage actions related to policy provisions/statutory interpretation
• Assisted in the defense of a public utility in consolidated actions arising from a natural gas explosion at a garden apartment complex, including wrongful death, personal injury, property damage, and subrogation claims
• Assisted in the defense of a stable owner in barn fire that destroyed twenty-one standard bred racing horses with respect to civil litigation and insurance claims
• Successfully defended national retailer in administrative proceedings concerning alleged violations of building and fire codes
• Successfully defended publisher against competitor’s request for injunctive relief precluding national survey based upon on alleged violations of restrictive covenant
• Representation of subcontractor in defense of environmental claims and delay damages arising from alleged soil contamination in a condominium development
• Representation of general contractor against condominium association’s claims for defective construction in a high rise residential development
