Ray Lyons becomes United States Bankruptcy Judge
On May 4, 1999, Raymond T. Lyons, was sworn in as a United States Bankruptcy Judge for the District of New Jersey. Lyons was a partner in Connell Foley LLP from 1989 until April, 1999, when he resigned to assume his judgeship.
Lyons is a graduate of Delbarton School, Morristown, New Jersey, Lehigh University, and Seton Hall School of Law. He holds an LL.M in Taxation from New York University Law School.
Chief Judge Anne E. Thompson, of the United States District Court of the District of New Jersey, presided at Lyons' investiture ceremony. Numerous federal and state judges were present, along with over 200 members of the bar, and Lyons' family and friends.
As a partner at Connell Foley LLP, Lyons headed the firm's Bankruptcy Law practice group and also was a member of the firm's Banking Law group. Lyons has received numerous awards for his charitable endeavors. He was instrumental in starting the Pro Bono Bankruptcy Project administered through the New Jersey State Bar Association and also has been involved for years in efforts on behalf of the homeless in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
