Mr. Kenny is licensed to practice before the New Jersey Supreme Court and other courts of this state, the United States Supreme Court, the U.S. District Court of New Jersey and the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, as well as the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Third and Fourth Circuits and before the State Courts in New York.
Biography:
After serving a judicial clerkship, Mr. Kenny joined the firm and has been a partner since 1968. He is one of only a few lawyers who have been invited to membership as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, a Diplomate of the American Board of Trial Advocates and a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. He has served on and chaired numerous New Jersey Supreme Court Committees, including those dealing with the medical profession, attorney fees, civil case management reform, minors' funds, the media, court reporting and law firm identification. He has also served as a District Ethics Committee member and chair of the Committee. For fifteen years, he served the Court as chair of the Supreme Court Committee on Attorney Advertising and as a member of the Court's Committee on Professional Responsibility Rules.
Mr. Kenny is an Adjunct Professor of Law at Rutgers University School of Law in Newark and for several years has served as a member of the editorial board of the New Jersey Law Journal. With former Connell Foley partner Frank A. Lattal, he has authored the standard insurance text, New Jersey Insurance Law, first published in 1993 with a Second Edition published in 2000.
He is recognized as one of the premier litigation specialists in New Jersey, having tried more than 400 cases to conclusion and briefed or argued almost 100 reported Appellate Division and Supreme Court cases. He has lectured and written extensively on litigation, both as to procedure and substance in numerous fields of law. Mr. Kenny has been recognized by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a certified civil trial attorney since the initial certification of attorneys in the early 1980's.
He has also served consecutive terms as a trustee on the Board of Essex County College, including a term as chair of the Board, consecutive terms as member and chair of the Montclair Zoning Board of Adjustment, and served on the Board of the Legal Services Foundation of Essex County.
Mr. Kenny is a member of the American Bar Association and served as one of fifteen members on the Association's Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary which investigates, evaluates and votes on the qualifications of federal judicial nominees to the United States Supreme Court, Circuit Courts of Appeal and U.S. District Courts. He is a longtime member of the Association's Litigation Section and has served on its Council, as a Division Director and as chair of the Professional Liability Litigation Committee, Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee and as liaison to the ABA for attorney certification. Mr. Kenny is also a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, where he has served three terms as trustee, and the Essex County Bar Association in which he has held numerous offices including president of the Association.
Mr. Kenny represents clients in a broad range civil litigation cases and tort liability matters, including insurance, product liability, medical and professional malpractice, construction defect and employment law in both the state and federal courts.
