Biography:
Steve is an experienced litigator who practiced as a Professional Engineer and Certified Industrial Hygienist prior to attending law school. He has represented multinational companies, large New Jersey corporations, smaller businesses, and individuals, both as plaintiffs and defendants in litigation, and in the course of real estate and other commercial transactions and agreements.
He recently returned to Connell Foley after four years of service as Counsel - Health, Safety & Environment, for the British specialty chemicals company Elementis PLC, where he had global responsibilities for litigation, mergers and acquisitions, contracts, real property and regulatory compliance. He represented Elementis in the first reported CERCLA environmental cost recovery decision in the Southern District of New York after the United States Supreme Court's decision in Aviall. He managed and supported business transactions for Elementis ranging in value from $1 million to $60 million. For six years prior to joining Elementis, Steve was an associate with Connell Foley engaged in a wide variety of matters.
Steve graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering and received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder. He holds a Master of Science in Public Health from the University of Utah, he is registered as a Professional Engineer in New Jersey and Colorado, and he is a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) qualified in the comprehensive practice of industrial hygiene by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene. He was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force with the rank of Captain after serving for five years as a Bioenvironmental Engineer.
Steve has served as President of the New Jersey Section of the American Industrial Hygiene Association, Chairman of the Professional Conduct Committee of the New Jersey Society of Professional Engineers, and Public Defender for the Borourgh of Glen Ridge, among other civic and professional capacities. He is Co-Chair of the OSHA/New Jersey Industry Communication Alliance, a member of the New Jersey State Industrial Safety Council, and a member of the Executive Committee of the National Brownfield Association New Jersey Chapter. Steve lives with his wife and two children in Montclair, New Jersey.
