Associate

Overview

Michael Schewe practices all aspects of immigration law, from corporate/business immigration and compliance to consular processing and removal defense. He regularly assists corporations ranging from multinational organizations to U.S.-based businesses with bringing talent to the United States. In this regard, Michael files for H-1B, TN, O, L, E and other nonimmigrant, employment-based visas as well as green card applications (i.e., EB-1, EB-2, PERM EB-3, EB-4, EB-5) on behalf of the employers and individuals he represents. In addition, he regularly counsels such individuals on issues relating to investment visas, asylum, cancellation of removal, nonimmigrant visas, family-based immigrant visas and naturalization, among other topics.

Given the intricacies and regulatory requirements surrounding immigration compliance, Michael also provides employers with I-9 training sessions, guidance on internal self-audits and representation in the event of government audits. Michael practices immigration law in all 50 states and has clients in various countries around the world.

An experienced litigator and trial attorney, Michael frequently appears in the state and federal courts of New York and New Jersey, mainly in the areas of labor and employment law, but in various types of complex and commercial litigation.

Michael served as adjunct faculty of Rutgers and Montclair State Universities through the New Jersey Child Welfare Training Partnership. In that role, he instructed employees of the Department of Child Placement and Permanency (formerly DYFS) on immigration law and four-tier substantiation from 2011-2013. He holds an Honorary Degree from Peking University in Beijing, China.
