Breaking News: DHS Terminates TPS for Nicaragua and Honduras with EADs Expiring September 8, 2025

On July 7, 2025, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Nicaragua and Honduras effective September 8, 2025. The decision was formally published in the July 8, 2025 edition of the Federal Register. Prior to this publication, Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) issued to Nicaraguan and Honduran nationals were generally extended automatically until January 5, 2026. However, the Federal Register changed this on July 8, 2025.

During the TPS wind down period, DHS will automatically extend EADs previously issued under Honduras’ and Nicaragua’s TPS designations through September 8, 2025. Covered EADs include those that have the notation A-12 or C-19 under Category with a “Card Expires” date of January 5, 2018, January 5, 2019, April 2, 2019, January 2, 2020, January 4, 2021, October 4, 2021, December 31, 2022, June 30, 2024, and July 5, 2025.
