Five Connell Foley Partners Named to Irish Legal 100

Roseland, New Jersey - October 23, 2015 - Connell Foley LLP is proud to announce that firm partners Owen C. McCarthy, William T. McGloin, Philip F. McGovern Jr., Kathleen S. Murphy and Robert E. Ryan were named to “The Irish Legal 100” for 2015. 

The Irish Legal 100 is comprised of some of the most accomplished and distinguished lawyers of Irish descent from all across America. Lawyers are chosen from law firms, law schools, the judiciary and industry.  According to the publisher, “The Irish Legal 100 represents our most vibrant Irish network designed to bring people together, foster modern relationships with Ireland and to advance the interests of Irish America.”

Connell Foley’s partners and the other Irish Legal 100 honorees were recognized at a formal reception at the residence of the Irish Ambassador to the United States on October 22, 2015 in Washington, D.C.

Owen McCarthy is an experienced litigator whose diverse practice includes tort litigation, insurance defense, insurance coverage and commercial litigation. He has successfully litigated multiple complex disputes on behalf of private corporations. Mr. McCarthy has tried more than 50 cases to verdict throughout New Jersey and taken numerous appellate cases to successful conclusion. He is designated by the Board of Trial Certification of the New Jersey Supreme Court as a Certified Civil Trial Attorney, and was recently nominated to the New Jersey State Bar Association Civil Trial Bar Section Executive Committee. He is also a Certified Mediator designated by the New Jersey Superior Court.

William McGloin is a partner in Connell Foley’s Professional Liability, Insurance Defense, Product Liability and Tort, Construction Law and Commercial Litigation practice groups.  He represents a broad array of businesses and individuals and has litigated all types of civil matters, including professional liability, general liability, products liability, construction defect, wrongful death, premises liability and transportation matters. For more than 20 years, he has helped clients navigate and successfully resolve their complex legal issues through advocacy and, when needed, litigation. He was previously named to The Irish Legal 100 in 2013.

Philip McGovern is a member of Connell Foley’s Executive and Management Committees and serves as the Managing Partner of the firm’s Jersey City, New Jersey office. He focuses his practice primarily on real estate and corporate transactions, real estate development, land use, complex commercial financing, and commercial leasing. He has participated in New Jersey State and other municipal financings totaling more than several billion dollars in value and has negotiated leases on behalf of landlords and tenants for commercial structures in excess of 3,000,000 square feet. He served a 10-year term as the Secretary to the District VC Ethics Committee, and is currently the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of St. Peter’s Preparatory School and Chairman of the Township of Nutley Planning Board. He also serves on the boards of the Hudson County Chamber of Commerce and the Jersey City Economic Development Corporation.

Kathleen Murphy focuses her practice on litigation and labor and employment law, and has tried more than a hundred verdict trials. Her extensive trial experiences involve defense of enumerable automobile negligence claims, product liability trials, environmental claims and employment discrimination claims. Ms. Murphy has broad experience in the Appellate Court, having argued dozens of cases relating to evidential and substantive issues. She is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, one of the premier legal associations in the country, and is a member of the Fellows of the American Bar Foundation, a prestigious organization that requires elected membership. She was honored in 2013 as the recipient of the Trial Attorneys of New Jersey trial award.

Robert Ryan is Chair of the Professional Liability practice group and a senior litigator at Connell Foley. A five-time Certified Civil Trial Attorney as certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey, Mr. Ryan has dedicated his professional practice for over 30 years to the litigation and trial of substantial matters. Mr. Ryan's practice is focused on the litigation and trial of significant professional liability matters involving attorneys, architects and engineers, as well as complex commercial and business law actions. He was previously named to The Irish Legal 100 in 2013 and 2014.
