The New Jersey Ireland Trade Commission (NJITC) mission trip is laying the groundwork for future collaboration between Ireland and New Jersey. The delegation, which included Bill Moen and Sean Kennedy (Connell Foley Advisor and vice chair of the NJITC) among others, toured Leinster House (the Irish Parliament) and met with Verona Murphy, TD, the Ceann Comhairle (Speaker) of the Dail Eireann.
Assemblyman Bill Moen (D, Barrington-Camden-Woodbury) noted that the conversation highlighted the values and priorities Ireland and New Jersey share.
He and Kennedy emphasized shared perspectives on critical issues such as energy, housing and education.
The group also met U.S. Ambassador to Ireland Edward Walsh and his wife, Lynn Walsh, for a group dinner in Dublin.
Moen and Kennedy agree that spending time with Ambassador Walsh was a great opportunity to discuss how to strengthen the ties between New Jersey and Ireland particularly from a business perspective. Kennedy believes having the ambassador closely connected to New Jersey will benefit the state.
Kennedy added that the trip has already helped the NJITC to meet its goal of having the commission establish connections with key leaders moving forward as the state prepares for a new administration.
He concluded by noting that the small state and small country can punch above their weight on the global stage and that a continued partnership between New Jersey and Ireland going forward will prove highly advantageous.
