Karen Painter Randall, chair of Connell Foley’s Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Group and co-chair of the firm’s Professional Liability Group, will serve as a panelist at “RANSOMWARE: A Global Threat to Local Business,” a symposium to be hosted by Kean University’s Cyber Security Center and the Union County Small Business Development Center (SBDC). The June 20, 2016 program will educate small business owners about the increasing threat of ransomware, a type of malware in which a hacker encrypts critical systems files and holds the files “ransom” until the affected organization pays to receive the decryption key.

The program features expert speakers, two panel discussions and valuable networking opportunities. New Jersey Assemblyman Jon M. Bramnick will deliver the keynote address. Speakers include representatives from the FBI and the NJ Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness.

The symposium, which will be free to attendees, will be held in Kean’s STEM auditorium, 1075 Morris Ave., Union, N.J from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
