Karen Painter Randall to speak at the 2015 Cyber Liability Summit

Karen Painter Randall, co-chair of Connell Foley LLP’s Cyber Security and Data Privacy Group, will present on “Be Prepared or Face the Consequences” at the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance (CLM) Cyber Liability Summit. The program will be held on October 21st in New York. 

Ms. Randall provides representation, counseling, litigation, and advocacy services to professionals and businesses in complex litigation in federal and state court. Designated a Certified Civil Trial Attorney by the Supreme Court of New Jersey, she is a partner at Connell Foley LLP in Roseland, NJ where she also co-chairs her firm’s Professional Liability Group. Ms. Randall advises clients on the data protection and regulatory compliance laws applicable to clients’ businesses and develops proactive plans to reduce the risk of a data breach. She also provides counseling on appropriate policies and procedures, and assists with training employees and implementing data breach incident response plans as well as remedial action in response to a cyber breach. As a Certified Civil Trial Attorney, Ms. Randall’s strong litigation background and experience allow her to provide post-breach guidance to clients relevant to statutory notification requirements, class action litigation, regulatory actions, forensics and public relations assistance.

Ms. Randall clerked for the Honorable Richard W. Riley, former Governor of South Carolina. She also served as law clerk to the Honorable J. Emmet Cassidy, Presiding Judge, Law Division, and Bergen County, New Jersey. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of South Carolina (Honors College) and her Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law. She is admitted to practice in New Jersey, U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Ms. Randall has been repeatedly tapped for key state and national leadership positions. She received a presidential appointment to serve on the ABA’s Standing Committee on Lawyer’s Professional Liability. Ms. Randall was appointed by N.J. Supreme Court Chief Justice Rabner to serve on New Jersey’s Board on Civil Trial Certification. Other leadership roles include Regional Chair, Claims and Litigation Management Alliance, Vice Chair, Data Security and Privacy Group, USLAW Network, Inc., and Mentor, National Association of Women Lawyers. 

Ms. Randall has received several business and legal awards. She has been repeatedly selected for inclusion in the Top 100 of New Jersey Super Lawyers and, notably, in the Top 50 Females of New Jersey Super Lawyers. She was also selected by the New Jersey Law Journal as a Prominent Leader Among Women and Minority Attorneys in New Jersey. Ms. Randall received NJBIZ’s prestigious Best 50 Women in Business award. She was also a national Finalist for the CLM Litigation Professional of the Year award and most recently she was recognized in New Jersey’s Women Leaders in Law.

Recognized as a thought leader, Ms. Randall lectures and writes regularly on cyber security and privacy law, business litigation, professional liability, social media use and ethics and director and officer issues ranging from risk management to defense and coverage issues.
