It is with profound sadness that we recognize the passing of former Connell Foley Partner, Robert “Bob” Podvey, on May 5, 2026, at the age of 85.
Bob’s legacy at Connell Foley — and throughout the New Jersey legal community — is defined by his extraordinary legal talent, unwavering professionalism, and deep commitment to mentoring generations of attorneys. Prior to joining Connell Foley in 2016, Bob was the Managing Partner of Podvey, Meanor, Catenacci, Hildner, Cocoziello & Chattman.
He was a highly respected attorney, Certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Civil Trial Attorney, with extensive expertise in real estate law, civil litigation, and environmental matters. A graduate of NYU Law School and a Root Tilden Scholar, he clerked for Judge Sidney Goldman. Deeply committed to his community, Bob served on the Executive Committee of the New Jersey State Chamber of Commerce, was Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Temple Sholom of West Essex, and Vice President of The Bridge in Essex County, New Jersey.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Bob remember him for his steadfast loyalty, strong sense of duty, and impressive breadth of legal expertise. Bob’s legacy is defined by his dedication to mentoring and developing talented attorneys, as well as his unwavering commitment to the community.
Bob is survived by his wife Debbie Podvey (Lynch); his children, Harris Podvey, Marcia Podvey (Sherri Glassman), Heather Asip (Daniel Asip) and Sarah Podvey; and his grandchildren, Skylar Podvey (Tucker McIntosh), Hannah Podvey, Lucas Podvey, Daniel Podvey, Brynn Podvey, Nolan Asip and Callum Asip.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 11, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Temple Sholom of West Essex, 760 Pompton Avenue, Cedar Grove, New Jersey 07009. A private burial will follow.
Shiva will take place on Monday, May 11 and Tuesday, May 12, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at 21 Natalie Drive, West Caldwell, New Jersey 07006.
In keeping with his philanthropic values, donations may be made in Bob’s honor to Temple Sholom of West Essex or the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce Foundation Payne Scholar Program.
