Karen Painter Randall Appointed to Chair of USLAW NETWORK's Data Privacy & Security Practice Group

Connell Foley LLP is pleased to announce that Karen Painter Randall has been appointed Chair of the USLAW NETWORK Data Privacy & Security Practice Group. Karen, who is the Chair of Connell Foley’s Cyber Security and Data Privacy Group, has been part of the USLAW Data Privacy Group leadership for many years and served most recently as Vice Chair of that Group. Joining Karen in the current leadership of the USLAW NETWORK Data Privacy & Security Practice Group are Molly Arranz of SmithAmundsen as Vice Chair, Batya Forsyth of Hanson Bridgett as Secretary, and James Snyder of Klinedinst as Educational Coordinator.

A Certified Civil Trial Attorney, with extensive experience in Cybersecurity, data security and incident response, Karen represents a wide array of business sectors, including financial services, healthcare, state and municipal entities, educational facilities, transportation and retail companies, as well as lawyers and other licensed professionals.  Karen serves as breach response counsel across specific industries and for cyber liability insurance carriers, managing hundreds of data security incidents, particularly business email compromise and ransomware attacks. She drives strategic solutions related to post-breach issues, including forensic and e-discovery investigations, statutory notification requirements, remediation, class action litigation, regulatory compliance and enforcement actions. In addition to incident response, Karen has a depth of experience in technology/vendor agreements, enterprise risk management, privacy litigation and regulatory defense.

Karen is considered a national thought leader in the cybersecurity and incident response field. She frequently speaks nationwide and is a commentator on developing issues in cybersecurity. She recently received her third presidential appointment to the American Bar Association’s Cybersecurity Legal Task Force. Karen is also the founder and Chair of the New Jersey State Bar Association Cybersecurity Legal Task Force. In 2018 she created and was appointed Director of the University of South Carolina School of Law's Cybersecurity Legal Task Force, one of the first Cybersecurity Legal Task Forces for a law school in the southeast. This task force produces a National  Cybersecurity Institute every year bringing in national experts to discuss the threat landscape and risk mitigation strategies. In May 2019, Karen was named by NJBIZ as a winner of the inaugural “NJ Digi-Tech Innovators Awards” and was the only attorney among the 34 honorees selected for this award.
