Connell Foley is pleased to announce that Kate Murphy, a partner in the firm’s Insurance Defense Group, has been named the 2018 recipient of the Hon. Herman L. Breitkopf Award from the Middlesex County Trial Lawyers Association. The Breitkopf Award is presented annually to the trial lawyer who best embodies the characteristics exemplified by Judge Breitkopf throughout his distinguished legal career, including honesty, integrity, intelligence and an unwavering concern for the welfare of both the bar and of its members. We are especially proud to note that Kate is the first woman to ever receive this prestigious award. Kate will be honored at the Breitkopf Award Dinner at Colonia Country Club on November 1, 2018.

Kate has received numerous honors and appointments in recognition of her exceptional trial skills and achievements, including in 2017 the James J. McLaughlin Award of the New Jersey State Bar Association (Civil Trial Bar Section) and the Middlesex County Bar Association - Civil Trial Practice Award. In addition, Kate was selected as a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, and is a member of the Fellows of the American Bar Foundation and the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). She previously served on the Supreme Court of New Jersey’s Advisory Committee and Ethics Committee, was a master in the Essex County Inns of Court, and was a member of the Judicial Appointments Committee, Judicial Evaluation Committee and Civil Trial Bar Commission.
