Karen Painter Randall speaks at the 2013 CLM Annual Conference

Karen Painter Randall was one of the featured speakers at the 2013 Annual Conference of the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance (CLM). The Annual Conference which was held from April 10 to 12 in San Antonio, TX.  Ms. Randall spoke on a professional liability topic, “Technology’s Rapidly Growing Impact on the Standard of Care and Practice of Law.”

Karen Painter Randall is a Partner and Chair, Professional Liability Practice Group at Connell Foley LLP. Ms. Randall provides counseling, representation and advocacy services to a wide range of professionals and businesses in complex litigation including: attorneys and judicial professional liability and legal malpractice, design professionals, pharmacists, architects/engineers, insurance agents and brokers, real estate brokers, agents and inspectors, financial institutions, security brokers and investment advisors, accountants, directors and officers and healthcare professionals in federal, state and before the United States Supreme Court. She also represents clients in complex litigation involving business litigation, media law, construction law, insurance law, product liability and tort law. She is also Chair of the firm’s Director & Officer Practice Groups. Ms. Randall is a veteran trial attorney in both state and federal courts. The Supreme Court of New Jersey, Board on Trial Attorney Certification designated Ms. Randall a Certified Civil Trial Attorney in 1992, 1999, 2006 and 2012 in recognition of her trial and professional accomplishments. Ms. Randall is also admitted to practice law in the United States Supreme Court, US District Court for the District Court of NJ, US District Court of Appeals, Third Circuit and State of New Jersey. In 2011, Ms. Randall was involved in the preparation and submission of a Petition for Writ of Certiorari to the United States Supreme Court on an issue of national significance involving the Fair Debt Collection Practice Act. She appeared for argument before the US Solicitor General, FTC and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in Washington, DC after four US Supreme Court Justices voted to seek the United States' view on the issue presented in the Petition.

Ms. Randall clerked for the Honorable Richard W. Riley, former Governor, State of South Carolina from 1982 to 1984. She also served as law clerk to the Honorable J. Emmet Cassidy, Presiding Judge, Law Division, Bergen County, NJ from 1984 to 1985.

Ms. Randall has been repeatedly tapped for key leadership positions by state and national organizations. These appointments underscore her reputation for professional excellence and integrity. Key appointments and service include: the American Bar Association, Section of Litigation, (Professional Liability Leadership Committee), American Bar Association Section of Insurance Coverage (Chair - Emerging Issues, Chair, Professional Liability and Chair, Director and Officers), New Jersey State Bar Association (Chair - Insurance Benefits), Bergen County Bar Association (Judicial Performance Committee), Defense Research Institute (Advisory Board, Steering Committee and Chair, Professional Liability), USLAW Network, Inc. (National Chair; Chair - Professional Liability Leadership Committee, Diversity Committee, Women’s USLAW Steering Committee), Claims and Litigation Management Alliance (N.J. State Chair and President, Northern NJ CLM Chapter) and National Association of Women Lawyers (National Mentor).

Ms Randall has been recognized by her colleagues by being selected as NJ Top 50 Female Super Lawyer repeatedly. In 2012 she received the prestigious Best 50 Women in Business award from NJBIZ. Ms Randall was also selected by the NJ Law Journal as a Prominent Leader Among Women and Minority Attorneys in NJ.
