ROSELAND, N.J./April 18, 2008 -- Robert E. Ryan, Esq., Managing Partner of Connell Foley’s Professional Liability practice group and Thomas S. Cosma, Esq., a partner with the firm’s Construction Law practice group, will present a seminar entitled "The Law of Professional Liability and Risk Management for Engineers" to a major New York City-based engineering firm on April 29, 2008.
Topics to be covered include recent developments in the law of professional liability for engineers and risk management techniques to control exposure to professional malpractice litigation.
Mr. Ryan, a four-time Certified Civil Trial Attorney as certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey, is also a member of the firm’s Product Liability and Tort Law and Insurance Defense practice groups. He has dedicated his professional practice for over 25 years to the litigation and trial of substantial matters. Mr. Ryan’s practice places particular emphasis on the representation of architects, engineers, attorneys, and physicians in major professional malpractice litigation. In this regard, he has served as lead counsel in the representation of regional, national, and international professional firms in significant litigation matters in both state and federal courts.
Mr. Ryan has also represented parties in significant product liability litigation as well as large scale construction defect actions in all forums. He has litigated a wide-variety of substantial and complex matters, including professional liability, general liability, product liability, catastrophic construction accidents, wrongful death, design and construction-related property damage and economic loss actions, declaratory judgments, and environmental law matters in state and federal courts.
Mr. Cosma is also a member of the firm’s Commercial Litigation practice group. For the past 30 years he has focused his practice on construction law, commercial law, corporate and business law, and trusts and estates law. He has litigated before the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, the United States Tax Court, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the American, New Jersey State and Essex County Bar Associations, as well as the Association of the Federal Bar of New Jersey.
Mr. Cosma is a member of the NJSBA Section of Public Contract Law. He is also a member of the ABA Sections of Litigation, Public Contract Law, and Business Law. He serves on the ABA Construction Litigation Committee, its Committee on Partnerships and Unincorporated Business Organizations, and the Uniform Commercial Code Committee. He is currently Chair of the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Judicial Administration Committee.
