Karen Painter Randall, chair of Connell Foley’s Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Group, authored an article entitled "Data Breaches: Adding a New Layer to the Risk of Legal Malpractice," which was published in the New Jersey Law Journal in January 2020.

Today's digital climate is rife with data breaches. These attacks are not a matter of "if" but "when" and law firms are a soft target for hackers, as they possess a large volume of critical data. This article will discuss the ethics rules that require attorneys to be competent and to have reasonable safeguards in place to protect their clients and respond to a data breach.
