Connell Foley partner and veteran environmental lawyer George Duke attended his client Krasdale Foods’ ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of a pivotal project he advised on for several years: the installation of the largest rooftop solar system in the Bronx.

Perched atop Krasdale’s Hunts Point warehouse and consisting of 6,500 solar panels, the 2.7-megawatt system will generate 3.4 million kWh of solar energy per year—enough to offset 5.3 million pounds of carbon dioxide, the equivalent of removing 524 automobiles from the road annually. That’s especially important in Hunt’s Point, where pollution created by trucks driving in and out of the area’s food distribution center has long highlighted the need for clean energy.

The project will help approximately 300 Bronx residents to reduce their electric bills and will provide access to clean, renewable energy to community members who may not have ideal conditions to directly install solar panels onsite.
