ROSELAND, N.J./May 9, 2012 -- Recognized nationally for his expertise in planning estates for high net worth individuals, Connell Foley Partner Anthony F. Vitiello hosted two sessions at the AICPA Conference on Tax Strategies for the High-Income Individual held at the Las Vegas Bellagio, April 30-May 1, 2012. This year's Conference attracted over 750 attendees.

Delivered before a diverse audience of professional advisors, Vitiello's sessions included:

  • “The Perfect Hedge: Cutting-Edge Planning Strategies with Guaranteed Results”

?This session provided details of two creative and often overlooked estate planning strategies − a combination of either Grantor Retained Annuity Trusts (GRATs) or Charitable Lead Annuity Trusts, both coupled with insurance, as an almost no-risk planning vehicle for high net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients.

  • “Are You Prepared to Prepare the Complex Gift Tax Return (and Spot the GST Traps)?”

This session focused on preparation and technical presentation of gift tax returns involving complex estate planning transactions, including personal residence trusts, limited partnership transactions, grantor retained annuity trust transactions, and other technical issues. Along with pitfalls in generation skipping transfer tax issues, considerations in defending a gift tax return audit were covered.

With a legal background that encompasses almost two decades of practice in sophisticated estate planning for high and ultra-high net worth individuals, Vitiello is regularly consulted on complex tax controversies against the IRS, hard-fought estate litigation matters, and post-death estate administrations. He has authored a specialty chapter on Grantor Retained Annuity Trusts (GRATs) for the American Bar Association’s national publication: Practical Guide to Estate Planning, and he has been recognized by top industry magazines such as Worth Magazine’s “Top 100 Attorneys” list for all years of its publication (2005-2008), and more recently named in Best Lawyers (2011-2012) and Super Lawyers.
